China And Modernity: Cultural Implication
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The spoils of modernity have presented a cultural conflict for China and her heritage. Inasmuch as the twentieth century opened many social, political and cultural doors that had heretofore remained tightly shut, younger generations have taken the opportunity to reach beyond the sometimes-stringent boundaries of tradition in exchange for experiencing the new and unconventional. Indicative of two generations that look upon each other as being completely out of touch with reality, traditional and modern-day Chinese have little understanding of the needs reflected by the other's generation. China and the US: Then and Now.
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) Although exceedingly dramatic, the spy
plane incident with China last month is another
example of one of a long series of erratic
politics Chinese style. If this were a domestic
incident rather than an international one, we might
be tempted to label it just another in a "spin-
the-bottle" type of management, as it appears to us
in the West that China reacts to situations rather
than plans for them. In this discussion we will
look at some of the past history of political
relations between China and the United States up to
the plane "incident. "Bibliography lists

China's Left-Wing Writers
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. The left-wing writings of Mao Dun's "Spring Silkworms," Lao She's "A Hired Wife," Ye Zi's "Harvest," Ba Jin's "A Moonlit Night" and Shen Congwen's "The Husband" all reflect different approaches to the same conclusion: defining the rural problems in China throughout the 1920s and 1930s. Clearly, the problems were both grand and far-reaching, with solutions so extreme that it was not only politically incorrect for the authors to suggest any, but that was the very reason they did so within the safety of their literary worlds. Correspondingly, one cannot easily ignore the blatant bias projected from the sometimes angered authors, whose primary objectives are to present a politically, socially and economically volatile concern to the very foreground of public consciousness, even if these selective biases serve to sometimes limit the use of said documents as primary sources. China's New Economy for the New Millennium
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page paper discussing China's great
economic gains since the end of the late-1990s Asian currency crisis. China has proven itself to
be more than "just" another developing nation seeking to take advantage of temporary advantages
for short-term gain. Rather, indicators point toward a nation taking concrete steps to building
positive and long-term benefits, taking into account the needs of both the government and the
people. China led the world in advances for centuries, but its intended isolation and later full
embrace of communism stymied the economic growth it could have enjoyed long ago. It seems
now to be poised to rectify past oversights, creating a hybrid of economic reality and ideology
that can satisfy ingrained and long-standing philosophy. The paper examines such factors such as
GDP, balance of trade, private ownership, and others. Bibliography lists 20 sources.

China's One-Child Policy Act
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. The explosive opposition to China's one-child policy act has been supported by incidents of inhumane proportions. Given the fact that large families are representative of China's inherent history, imposing restrictions that allow only one child per family --otherwise leaving the parents to face fines, taxes and the absence of governmental support -- has been looked upon as barbarous for such a developed nation. Issues of hostility toward women and the overwhelming statistical evidence of abortion-related medical concerns have turned what once might have been a reasonably good idea into one that carries with it significant drawbacks with regard to human life. China: US Foreign Policy After WTO Accession
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page paper discussing how the bureaucratic politics model has influenced US foreign policy regarding China since China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). China's need for greater economic prosperity for its people and greater international acceptance likely have been the driving forces behind its willingness to make any concessions at all to US requests. Certainly all conditions in China do not fit with the US' conception of democracy and individual freedom.
