The Philosophical Basis Of Privacy
[ send me this paper ]
16 pages in length. The Merriam Webster Collegiate
Dictionary defines privacy as one's right to freedom from unauthorized intrusion. Clearly, this definition does not reflect contemporary society and the myriad ways in which personal information is readily collected; from medical records to workplace surveillance to personal computers, virtually no one's privacy is protected in today's world. Are people still entitled to their privacy when certain pieces of information might well impact someone else's life? Is there too much personal information ending up in the hands of those persons and agencies who can ultimately do us harm? Or is there a fine line of lost privacy that is inherent to maintaining control in a world whose population is exploding at the seams? Inasmuch as there are more than two sides to this particular controversial topic, one might readily surmise that there could not exist one rectifying solution. Bibliography lists 24 sources.

The Reasons for Some Firms’ “Plunge” into E-Commerce
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing the reasons why firms plunge into e-commerce without consideration for the return in their investment. From some perspectives, it would seem that many firms “plunge” into e-commerce without assessing the return on their investment. This “plunge” however has become a necessary process for all businesses due to the current expanding presence of e-commerce and its expected presence in the future. Electronic business has become an expectation from customers and businesses and those companies which choose to not “plunge” into e-commerce may be left behind their competitors. In addition, before looking at any return on investments, some initial benefits to e-commerce are obvious at the onset such as reduction of some traditional costs like publishing and distribution to a customer base among others.

The World Wide Web as a Free Frontier
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 4 page paper discussing the world wide web as a free frontier and not a controlled space. Recent articles which have exposed the introduction of processes in an attempt to control aspects of the world wide web have only demonstrated further that the internet is a medium that not only has been difficult to control in a capitalistic way but in fact remains a free frontier. Businesses which have in fact put into place a process which is meant to control their users actually only leads their users through a pre-selected process. The use of this process however is user controlled as users and companies acknowledge that the users are able to exist at any time and choose another product or page from the millions that are available. The concept of control of the world wide web lessens with each day as it continues to include areas within the global community and also continues to be the new frontier which offers limitless opportunity by all who utilize it.

Turkle's "Can You Hear Me Now?" - Summary/Response
[ send me this paper ]
4 pages in length. Technology is taking over the task of being human. With the sweeping array of technological advancements over the recent past, people have become conveniently left out of their own lives. Turkle's article in Forbes entitled "Can You Hear Me Now" is a study in the disappearing act of human nature: The more technology removes the need for person-to-person interaction, the more people are becoming less and less capable of interacting with each other or themselves. Indeed, today's myriad modes of communication - e-mail, cell phones, texting - are considered a vast improvement in the way people exchange ideas and transmit information, however, Turkle points out how these transmissions are accomplished in a sort of automated fashion without any emotionally tangible connection to the recipient - or themselves. As man works feverishly to isolate humanity from itself in the name of progress, he moves equally as fast in the direction that will replace this fleeting interaction with a falsified intimacy tailored toward the robotic machines that only once existed in science fiction stories. No bibliography.
