Crime in Japan: Improvements in Education, Employment, Penalties and Monitoring of Drugs
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 4 page paper discussing crime in Japan and recent government reforms in relation to decreasing the crime rate. A recent increase in the crime rate in Japan over the past decade has prompted the Japanese government to implement improvement policies in the areas of education, employment, increased penalties and monitoring of the drug trade. Education and employment reforms have included those which take into account the importance of continued education, social factors related to crime, and the maintenance and re-education of workers within the labor market. Considerations in the law enforcement disciplines have included lowering the age at which young offenders can be tried for criminal offenses, strict public fire arm restrictions and international cooperation in regards to the drug trade and market.

Crime Prevention in Australia
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper discussing the "whole of government" approach to crime prevention and the difficulties of implementing that approach in Australia. Effective implementation depends on the development of appropriate policies and effective programs through which to exercise those policies. It also depends on the ability of governmental departments to work together and for all involved to take on a systems view of the goals before them. Though other nations – notably the United States and the United Kingdom – have had difficulties in accomplishing a "whole of government" approach to crime prevention, Australia appears to be better positioned for implementation of the same types of goals. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Crime Prevention.
[ send me this paper ]
(6 pp) Our classroom-generated assignment asks us
to determine the nature of the crime in our
community. In order to do that the Uniform
Crime Report, which has been in place since the
1940's we will need the number of crimes reported
to the police, the crimes cleared by arrest, and
the age, gender race of offender, and also use
crimes reported by victims and the
socio-demographics of victims. Once the type of
crime prevalent in the community has been
established a program will be developed to address
that crime and crime issue. Bibliography

Crime Theores X 2.
[ send me this paper ]
(8 pp). As humans most of us constantly ask the
question why. Criminologists, first being
initially human, and second having a great sense
of curiosity, ask that question as well, and
accordingly have come up with several reasons
called theories, why people break the law. In this
discussion we will be examining two of those
theories: Strain Theory,1910 and, Differential
Association Theory, 1939.

Criminal Justice Agency & Terrorism: Proposed Administrative Change
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Despite monumental opposition from myriad groups and individuals alike, the one most obvious administrative change that will ultimately make a significant impact is racial/religious profiling. It is long past time to revise the criminal justice strategy with regard to actively interrogating those who may be members of a terrorist faction based upon their physical appearance and/or religious affiliations; no longer can America be more concerned with invasion of personal rights when it has been clearly illustrated how terrorists readily infiltrate society in the guise of regular people. Those who have nothing to hide should be thankful for the extent to which the criminal justice system goes to protect their lives. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Criminal Justice Practitioners And Criminologists: Use Of Crime Data Reports
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. The importance of crime data is to determine trends of criminal activity in specific areas during specific times. These reports provide critical information for criminal justice practitioners and criminologists by offering a sequential look at the manner by which crimes are committed by correlating such variables as frequency, proximity and other demographic statistics. The extent to which crime data reports enable criminologists and criminal justice practitioners to gain an understanding of criminal activity is both grand and far-reaching; that such information further creates a basis upon which they can sometimes stay ahead of the criminal and thwart the offense before it happens speaks to the inherent value of utilizing crime data reports. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

analysis, program planning, and evaluation
components in research methods courses.

Criminal Profiling
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page paper discussing the development and process of criminal profiling. As much art as science, the end goal of the process of criminal profiling is to identify and assess all of the information available about a crime or criminal so that all of that information can be used to locate, arrest and successfully prosecute those who would engage in violent crime. Criminal profiling is an invaluable tool for defining what investigators should be searching for in terms of suspects. Data Collection and the New York Police Department -- “The NY-911
Demonstration Project”
[ send me this paper ]
This 26 page report discusses the
design, implementation, and analysis of a survey regarding the
New York Police Department’s emergency 911 service. A “super 911”
emergency system was installed in 1996 at the NYPD’s Metro Tech
Complex located in Brooklyn. The new system was described at that
time as the largest and most complex in the world. “In 1995, ten
million calls were made to New York City’s 911 system. Police
officials say that number increases by 10 to 12 percent each
year. Nonetheless, in the years since its installation, there
have been a number of failures of the system, repeated
complaints, and the concern that despite the system’s complexity,
it still has a number of flaws -- primarily in terms of the human
service component. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Deferred Retirement Option Plan as a Recruiting and Retention Tool for the New York Police Department
[ send me this paper ]

Programs encouraging early retirement years ago currently are draining the NYPD of its most experienced police officers, while negative stereotypes associated with police work hamper efforts to recruit officer candidates. Digital And Psychological Profiling Of Cyber Crime
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. Witnesses are often the single most important elements of securing a conviction or realizing an acquittal; without these observers to testify as to what they saw, heard or know, myriad court cases would either go unsolved or erroneously resolved. With the technological age, however, has come an entirely different type of witness who - by virtue of its unique position to collect incriminating data - does not have the capacity to lie. Computers have become some of the most critical tools law enforcement agencies have encountered, inasmuch as they provide a clear-cut path to criminals who use them as cyber weapons. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

Discrimination Of Women In The Policing And Probation Fields: Review Of Literature
[ send me this paper ]
20 pages in length. The female gender is no stranger among the various ranks of America's police force, inasmuch as their presence has been an integral component of law enforcement since 1913; however, the capacity in which they have served these past ninety years has long been a bone of contention with regard to issues of gender inequity. House (1993) notes how it was not until the 1970s that women were upgraded to more expansive roles within the department, representing a significant departure from the standard social and administrative work to which they were relegated. With the 1972 graduation of the nation's first female FBI agents came an altogether different perspective of women on the police force; however, House (1993) points out that even though this precedence-setting event helped to increase the number of policewomen from just over three thousand to approximately twenty-eight hundred between 1971 and 1990, it has done little to improve promotions or decrease discrimination worldwide. Bibliography lists 20 sources.

[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper assessing one author’s view of racial and ethnic unfairness in the American system of criminal justice. Author and Georgetown law professor David Cole argues in his book, “No Equal Justice: Race and Class in the American Criminal Justice System,” that the inequality inherent in our legal system originates not with those who enforce and carry out the laws, but rather with the decisions that emanate from the Supreme Court. Cole’s system of criminal justice is fair in its methods after an individual enters into it; it is the method of entry that preserves its inherent unfairness. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Foot Patrol As An Effective Law Enforcement Tool
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Enforcing the law is difficult enough without the added distraction of sidewalks, housing developments, industrial parks and just about every other impediment that makes patrol cars a less effective law enforcement tool. Utilizing foot patrol, on the other hand, provides for greater maneuverability through areas that a car simply cannot traverse, as well as keeps law enforcement visible for citizens and potential perpetrators alike to see. In contrast, foot patrol is not as effective as bicycle patrol, where law enforcement officers are trained to maneuver upon different types of bikes depending upon the terrain they will be covering. The agility and speed of bike patrol lends itself to crowded areas where cars are impractical and foot patrol is futile. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
