ADHD and Intelligence
[ send me this paper ]
A 20 page literature review of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and its associated Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and the link to intelligence. ADHD and ADD have been misunderstood, misdiagnosed, over-medicated, under-treated and all other aspects of being poorly handled over the years. Despite all of the attention it has gained for itself, relatively few researchers have attempted to make any direct correlation between intelligence and the presence of ADHD. It appears that efforts in this direction get bogged down in the insufficiencies of measuring intelligence. Nevertheless, several effects of ADHD can be related to affecting intelligence as it is defined and measured. The fact that measured intelligence values can be altered with attention to language and communication complicates any effort to make a direct correlation between ADHD and intelligence. So many other factors may be operational but unidentified that establishing that link in a valid manner is difficult. It still is a worthwhile effort, however, for greater understanding of ADHD can assist in lessening its detrimental effects. Bibliography lists 18 sources.

Adolescent Grief
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 3 page paper discussing adolescent grief, its differences from that of childhood and adult grief, reactions and school involvement in the bereavement process. Attending to the needs of grieving adolescents is considered an area of counseling and psychiatry which has been overlooked for many years. While there have been services and guidance in relation to grieving adults and children, there is considered to be an absence of programs in regards to teen services. Adolescent grief is considered different than that of child and adult grief because of the mixed messages often given by the adolescents themselves in that many are trying to strive for independence yet still recognize that they have some dependence on family members and others close to them. In addition, while adolescent grief is sometimes considered similar to that of adults, it is compounded with the additional stresses experienced during adolescence. Because of this adolescents often handle their grief with different reactions from those experienced by younger children and older adults.
Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Adolescents And ADHD
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Adjusting one's life to the inherent struggles of ADHD is not specific to the individual who suffers from the learning disability; rather, the need to develop coping mechanisms branches out to virtually every person with whom the individual comes in contact, not the least of which includes parents, siblings, non-familial adults and peers. This is particular pertinent with adolescent ADHD, in that during this period of life the young adult is compelled to deal with psychological, physiological and hormonal changes that make the focus-zapping disability an even greater challenge to endure. The extent to which issues such as scholastic difficulty and low self-esteem are a constant presence in the life of an ADHD adolescent are both grand and far-reaching; that specially modified approaches to learning must be approached in order to reach the ADHD adolescent speaks to the shattering of old-school mentality claiming these young adults simply cannot be reached. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Adult & Vocational Education/Welfare Reform
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page research paper (plus one-page outline) that addresses how current welfare reform has impacted adult and vocational education, which places its emphasis on putting people into jobs, any sort of job, as the first step in the welfare process, rather than developing the basic and job-related skills for obtaining gainful employment. Furthermore, the 1996 Act severely limits the time that a family can receive cash assistance for educational purposes. Therefore, adult and vocational educators are having to rethink their role in relation to current welfare reform (Imel, 1998). Consequently, the primary question before adult and vocational educators is how best to implement the 1996 legislation. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

Adult Learning Styles, Temperaments And Theories In "Educating Rita"
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Educating Rita is about two types of education: cognitive and experiential. Academic education is what drives a civilized society and the fundamental component of success, be that financial, interpersonal or self-worth. Practical education is that which is acquired as one moves through the different phases of life and learns from the inside out. For Rita, education was all of this rolled together; while she already possessed experiential knowledge, she gravely lacked proper intellectual prowess she knew would serve to fill in the missing pieces of her life. Rita was both overzealous and under-prepared as a student when pitted against the advanced academic career of her tutor, Dr. Bryant. Watching their educational dance proceed with an undeniable awkwardness, the audience comes to appreciate the intensity of Rita's quest for self-improvement just as much as her somewhat jaded professor, who ultimately comes around to champion her aspirations with the help of a number of learning theories. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Adult Learning Theories
[ send me this paper ]
A 13 page paper. Theorists have consistently commented on the need for experiential learning in adult education. The essay does not make any specific conclusion other than to point out that most theorists say some of the same things about the adult learner. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

Aging Population's Impact on Adult Education
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page research paper that discusses a prevalent demographic trend that is having a tremendous impact on adult education is the rapidly increasing number of older adults. On average, every "50 seconds another 50 baby boomers celebrate their 50th birthdays" (Morris and Ballard, 2003, p. 167). Baby Boomers are the generation born between 1946 and 1964 and they constitute one of the largest segments of the American population. Due to the progression of this demographic bump through the lifespan, the number of adult education programs for midlife and older adults has expanded tremendously over the course of the last 2 decades, with many programs moving beyond the traditional subject matters, such as recreational activities (Morris and Lane, 2003). Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Allowing Segregation In College Dormitories
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Yale University's regulations demand that freshman and sophomore years are spent living in the college dormitories. Members of some minority groups on college campuses often insist on living together in separate dorms, taking their meals together, engaging in separate activities and just generally living apart from those who are not of their ethnic background. In light of today's
emphasis upon the multicultural experience, should the university allow such segregation? Indeed, there is no question that this should be allowed to progress is this direction, inasmuch as forcing people to integrate with one another in the past has not proven a successful venture.
