Environmental Problems And Religious Misinterpretation: Christianity And Judaism
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. One of the many alternative explanations of the source of environmental problems was advanced by historian Lynn White, whose thesis contends the environmental crisis is due to the teachings of Judaism and Christianity in which Western culture has created a warped view of the proper relationship between humans and their environment. Upon examining White's article, it is clear to see his assertions are correct, in that religious teachings – particularly Christian in nature - instruct followers to look upon the environment as something to "subdue" (White, 1967, pp. 1203-1207), have dominion over and otherwise control to the point of absolute exploitation. According to White (1967), these gross misinterpretations are the fundamental reasons mankind faces the environmental problems that exist in contemporary society. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Environmental Sustainability in China
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page paper discussing two environmental problems in China (the Three Gorges Dam and air pollution) and measures that the government has or may take to mitigate the environmental effects. In contrast is the experience of Singapore, which adopted stringent environmental regulations when its economic growth led to environmental degradation. Though geographical constraint is not an issue in China overall, the citizenry could be taught to view their immediate surroundings as the only "environment" that counts as the government imposes stricter, more encompassing regulation on environmental effect of business. This is not likely to occur on an official level any time soon; it is more likely that China, as the U.S. before it, will incur grave environmental costs before moving to effectively abating the environmental effect of its economic activity. Environmentally Friendly, Sustainable And Intelligent Buildings
[ send me this paper ]
12 pages in length. Unarguably, the world's energy demand has increased as a direct relation to the continual rise in global population. What this translates to in correlating statistics is that energy demands throughout the past half century have tripled, the global economy has quintupled and the world population increased twofold (Anonymous, 1997). In the not-too-distant future - with regard to history's timeline - there will come a point when fossil fuels will be depleted and humans will be forced to find alternative sources with which to power such equipment as heating/cooling units and myriad others that utilize conventional energy choices in order to create buildings that are highly efficient, comfortable, green, safe and secure environments. EPA'S Response To Anthrax Attack
[ send me this paper ]
A 27 page paper. Anthrax-laced letters were discovered only weeks after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. An attack involving anthrax spores being transmitted through the mail had never occurred to anyone but here it was. The U.S. Congress asked the Environmental Protection Agency to take control of the testing and decontamination of infected buildings. The EPA was basically operating in the dark; there were no protocols for such a situation. This paper discusses the extensiveness of the situation, the EPA's role in the projects, the criticism levied against the EPA and the final determination that this agency was successful in the cleanup. The writer also comments on the containment of anthrax to a very small number of infected persons. Experts report the numbers could have been much higher if the antibiotics had not been prescribed as a precautionary measure against the disease. The writer explains what anthrax is, where it is usually found, the elimination of the disease in the U.S., which chemicals were used and the processes used to decontaminate the many buildings and areas infected. Data are included. Bibliography lists 30 sources.

Estuarine Benthic Habitats: Importance Of Disturbance And Predation On Species Diversity And Community Structure
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Habitat is only as strong as its least dangerous resistance; for estuarine benthic habitats, the individual and combined components of disturbance and predation can manifest in severe organism compromise. Some of the most harmful aspects are those brought about by man, however, even some seemingly natural - yet detrimental - occurrences are still to some degree instigated by human behavior. Ethical Reasoning Regarding Oil Exploration in Protected Wildlife Areas

The ethical approaches of utility, rights, justice and care are used when making business decisions. Oil companies now must balance the decision making process with ethical components from all approaches in that the approaches of rights, justice and care may have to be considered foremost in order for them to have a positive impact on utility and overall benefit for the company, its employees and the global population which depends on the refinement of oil as its energy source.
