Assessment of Northern Ireland since the Good Friday Agreement
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 4 page paper assessing the Northern Ireland conflict since the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement. Since the Good Friday Agreement was implemented in Northern Ireland in 1998, the British and Irish Governments have been assessing the events and improvements which have occurred since that time. In addition to constitutional and government issues addressed in the Agreement, the implementation of the Agreement also led to equal rights and opportunities regardless of religious affiliation in the areas of employment, services, and education which increased community awareness and cooperation. The fact the Agreement also contained aspects of diminishing the British police presence in Northern Ireland and the release of political prisoners was also exceedingly well received. Within the last year however, certain components in regards to the implementation of the Agreement have stalled, such as the full development of a new police force and board, and people have been split along pro-Agreement and anti-Agreement lines.

Book Review of Sharon Kay Penman’s novel “When Christ and His Saints Slept”
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page book review of Sharon Kay Penman’s novel “When Christ and His Saints Slept”. Sharon Kay Penman’s novel “When Christ and His Saints Slept” (1995) tells the story of the struggle for the English crown upon the death of Henry I during the 12th century. The novel is considered excellent on many accounts by the critics. Firstly, the novel is accurate in its detail in revealing the political turmoil and its horrific effects on the citizens of Britain at the time. Secondly, by the in-depth characterizations used in the novel and in some cases the introduction of fictional characters in order to obtain this, Penman managed to find a way to humanize that era in history which had previously been untold in such a manner. By doing this Penman not only creates an intensely interesting novel of history but also hopes to inspire her readers to further their education in the history of the Middle Ages, an area she considers still dark and undiscovered in its previous depictions.

Britain's Economic Decline 1870 - 1970
[ send me this paper ]
A 9 page paper discussing the reasons. Following the great prosperity of the Industrial Revolution, Britain essentially rested on its laurels and did little else aside from watching those laurels wilt. War traditionally is followed by periods of great economic growth, but Britain was ill-prepared for that growth following World War I and allowed itself to be subject to the high-tax policies of John Maynard Keynes following World War II. Keynesian policies essentially removed private sector incentive for taking any responsibility for rebuilding either the country's infrastructure or its economy. There are many reasons for the decline during the century of 1870-1970, but the primary one is that of poor management. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Britain's Resistance To The Euro
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Nearly one thousand years of monetary consistency is a long time for any currency to exist, which is why Britain is so resistant to accepting the new and unifying aspect of the European Euro expected to take hold and challenge even the most secure of global currencies, including the American dollar. After World War II, nearly every global currency felt the detrimental impact of postwar attempts to once again bolster the world's economy, with the Bretton Woods system at the forefront of this most difficult time. Now that the Euro is destined to become the primary standard of European currency, Britain continues to stand firm upon its conviction that it will not surrender the pound sterling for another monetary system it deems as a very real concern to British strength; however, speculation contends that Britain's political and economic influence throughout Europe will remain peripheral if it remains outside the Euro. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

Britain’s Premiere Role in Industrialization
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 7 page paper discussing the processes which lead to the reason why Britain was the first country in the world to industrialize. In the early 1700s, Britain’s mining, iron and textile industries were largely labour based and much of the country was still agricultural in its lifestyle. During the next century and a half however, Britain became the leading country in the industrial revolution, tripled its population and became the world’s leading producer of manufactured goods. Several elements played key factors in Britain leading the industrial revolution. Firstly, on a national scale, Britain had one of the best developed road and canal systems which enabled them to transport goods efficiently and manufacturers and businessmen were well supported in any upgrading methods they developed. These goods were also easily exported on a global scale by Britain’s expansive naval fleet of ships. Being an island nation provided Britain with certain advantages: firstly, they were separated from the wars on the continent which allowed them to progress industrially without interruption; and, their shipping fleet was maintained for overseas trade and security. Demands in the textile industry lead to machines which increased production in the weaving and spinning sectors. Increased production in the textile industry required further energy sources from water and steam which resulted in steam engine inventions which also proved exceedingly useful in the mining and iron processes. Britain was able to produce a vast amount of manufactured goods which were easily transported and unaffected by the Napoleonic Wars which slowed down industrial progress throughout Europe. The effects of the industrial boom are seen in the population growth at the time which more than tripled to over 21 million largely concentrated in the industrialized cities.
