A 3 page overview of pneumonia. Pneumonia can be caused by a variety of factors. These include both bacterial and viral organisms. Prevention is especially important for community acquired pneumonia. Effective prevention requires accurate diagnosis of the cases that do exist, isolation of infected patients, and strict attention to hygiene both by the patient and by those that move between patients. While antibiotics can be used to treat bacterial pneumonia, treatment for viral pneumonia is normally supportive in nature. Bibliography

Psychological Effects of Multiple Sclerosis
[ send me this paper ]
A 13 page paper discussing research into the psychological effects of multiple sclerosis (MS). One of the concurrent effects of MS is that of depression. Other psychological effects arise from MS as well, but more in terms of individuals’ reactions to their diagnoses. Where depression is different is that it can qualify on both fronts in the presence of MS: it is seen as both a symptom and result of the disease, a state that the physical action of MS makes more likely as well as a symptom of the individual’s reaction to his disease. Other psychological effects are seen as arising from MS as well, including anger, self-doubt, memory loss, social isolation and others. The purpose here is to review six articles researching these effects, followed by the review of six articles addressing treatments for them. Bibliography lists 17 sources.

Pursuing an Effective AIDS Vaccine
[ send me this paper ]
This 15 page paper discusses the state of research into finding an AIDS vaccine, including the medical perspective. New AIDS cases have declined in the US and several other developed nations, but AIDS is still the scourge of much of Africa, India and China, threatening an entire generation in some sections of Africa. AIDS was first described in 1981, and researchers have been seeking an effective vaccine for it ever since. Only one candidate has progressed to advanced trial to date, however. A review of literature combining scientific and business information reveals that it is the business aspect of the AIDS vaccine that has been most responsible for delay in achieving an effective vaccine. Global health organizations and nonprofit foundations call for greater private sector investment so that clinical trials of existing formulations can progress. Bibliography lists 17 sources.
