David Lynch: Post-Modernism
[ send me this paper ]
9 pages in length. The true essence of life's dramatic celebrations and postmodern accomplishment is portrayed with vivid mastery within David Lynch's television and film works. Lynch's participation in such productions as Dune, The Amputee and Twin Peaks – the last of which "provides an example of the changing relation between television and society in the 1990s, with its postmodern complexity" (Lavery, 1993, p. 239) - is instrumental in catapulting his influence to the heights they ultimately reached with regard to reflecting the very essence of postmodernism. These works - which effectively draw from the writer, director and actor's ability to perpetuate the transitional nature of postmodern theory from the more minimalistic phase in television and film to one where creative limitations are only a past memory - is characterized by a combination of his production prowess and cinematic mastery. The audience has little difficulty understanding the attraction of such works as Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart through Lynch's postmodern approach, all of which work synergistically as a means by which to create filmatic creations that gloriously represents the fruits of his collective labor. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay that compares Arthur Miller’s play “Death of a Salesman” and the 2006 film “The Pursuit of Happyness” (directed by Gabriele Muccino for Columbia Pictures) present two very different portrayals of fatherhood. The protagonists for both works are salesman, both fathers, both down-and-out and desperate to succeed. But they are also extremely different, in that Miller’s Willy Loman has a false sense of values and no sense of his own identity, while the film’s protagonist, Chris Gardner displays a firm sense of values and also demonstrates that he knows his own potential and abilities. In both cases, how the men view themselves is a legacy that is transmitted to their sons. Bibliography lists 1 source.

Deconstructing Film and Cross-Referencing Shakespeare’s “Hamlet" and “Richard the Third”

Diary of a Mad Black Woman/Film Review
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page film review/summation of Diary of a Mad Black Woman (directed by Darren Grant for Lions Gate, 2005). The writer argues that this film tries to be all things to all people. The film tries hard to be a comedy, as it features the outrageous performance of Tyler Perry, in drag, as the protagonist's grandmother. On the other hand, there are aspects of the film that moralize in a decidedly Christian, conservative, family-values type manner, only to abandon the Christian-context in order to encompass the theme of revenge. Is it a romantic comedy, drama, social commentary on divorce or a revenge narrative? The filmmakers cannot quite decide, so, ultimately, the film viewer is left in a similar quandary. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
