[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page research paper/essay that analyzes 2 composition by turn-of-the twentieth century composer Karl L. King (1891-1971), an American composer famous for his march music (Karl King). A self-taught musician, King began his career playing in and directing circus bands (Karl King). During this long career, he wrote and published more than 300 works, which includes 188 marches. A contemporary of the "March King," John Philip Sousa, it should be noted that King out-wrote Sousa by over 50 marches (Karl King). This examination of his compositions, A Trumpeter's Prayer contrasted against Emblem of Freedom, indicates the scope of his considerable musical talent as these are two very different compositions. La Sonnambula
[ send me this paper ]
( 5 pp) La Sonnambula (1831)is one of Vincenzio
Bellini's (1801-1835)top three operas among the
listening audience, and in tone is certainly the
most light-hearted. This is not to cancel in any
way the vocal pyro-technics of the bel canto
tradition, which appears in this performance. The
performers are not power-driven, as one might find
on larger stages, but complement this simple story,
and yet maintain a liveliness that is true to the
more dramatic nuances of Bellini's other works.

Major vs. Independent Record Labels
[ send me this paper ]
A 9 page paper weighing whether to sign with a major record label or an independent one. When opportunities to record with any label as opposed to self-recording and self-promoting recordings arise, artists must decide which path can benefit them most. Reaching this decision requires attention to several factors, not the least of which is the artists ultimate goal. Is it to be widely known as a result of having several hits that gain significant radio airplay and sell many copies of recordings? If so, then the major label likely will be better suited to the artist. If the artists ultimate goal is merely to further the type of music to which s/he is dedicated and can do so without preconceived ideas of the financial rewards that may result, then the independent label may be the best choice. Further, there are control issues to consider as well. Includes a letter of transmittal and an executive summary. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

This report particularly focuses on the sixth movement of this eight-movement quartet, which is quite distinctive rhythmically and exemplifies Messiaen's treatment of rhythm. The writer argues that the first two measures of this movement offer a rhythmic motive that provides the basis for the rest of the movement. Through repetition, added rhythmic values, augmentation and subtraction, virtually every rhythmic idea in the remainder of the movement evolves from these two measures. Before addressing the sixth movement directly, however, in order to explore how Messiaen accomplishes this remarkable development, the writer discusses the movement in relation to the rest of the work and briefly looks at his background.
