U2: Search For A New Identity
[ send me this paper ]
9 pages in length. It can readily be argued that music is the expression of one's very soul, encompassing myriad emotions, feelings, and desires that can range from one spectrum to the other. Often represented in U2's music are rage, love, happiness, sorrow and despair, their words providing an avenue for the writer to release the inner struggles that can be set free through no other means than verse. Indeed, their music can be a catharsis to one's ailing heart as much as it can be a conduit between two otherwise strangers, acting as diverse a means of communication as any medium, even when that communication comes across harsh and telling. This assemblage that comprises U2's music has been in question lately, inasmuch as the band's critics contend it has moved away from its traditional roots in order to make the grade. This claim, one that is both inaccurate and unfair to the very nature of artistic endeavor, causes one to reassess such criticism and ultimately discover that U2's visible transformation is mainly based upon their search for a new identity. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

The reason for such separation between blacks and whites when bebop became so popular is that white musicians were in it for the commercial success, seeing no other reason to play jazz but for financial gain and recognition.
