Refuting The Notion Of Impermanence In Buddhism
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The perception of time to the Buddhists is not associated with the measure of time in typical fashion, but rather it incorporates an overwhelming sense of wholeness and expansion, which effectively transcends any mortal barriers placed upon its passage. There are significant differences between how time is perceived in Buddhism and that which is perceived by what is termed a "normal" basis. This sense of distinct timelessness an impermanence that is in direct opposition to the rigid structure of its passage outside of the Buddhist realm -- has no proof of actuality; rather, it reflects an esoteric perspective of time and space that is supposed to apply to mortal beings. One might readily surmise that once out of this lifetime, the aspect of impermanence may exist, yet the fundamental essence mortal existence advances the very notion of limitations and perpetuity. Taoism
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 3 page paper discussing Taoism: its history, practice, and beliefs. Tao is translated into English as the way or the path but basically cannot be defined in the traditional sense. Instead, Tao (pronounced Dow and Daoism) refers to a power which envelops, surrounds and flows through all things, living and non-living. Taoism has also been referred to as the other way in reference to its coexistence with Confucianism within the Chinese Empire. While not radical in its concept, Taoism did offer an alternative to Confucianism. The Tao regulates natural processes and nourishes balance in the Universe and embodies the harmony of opposites. Believed to be first conceived by Lao-Tse (604-531 BCE) or Laozi, the initial editor of the Daodejing (Classic of the Way and its Power), Taoism became an adopted religion in 440 CE and along with Buddhism and Confucianism is considered one of the three great religions of China. Although state support for Taoism ended in 1911 in China and over the 20th century much of the Taoist heritage was destroyed, Taoism still has over 20 million followers primarily located in Taiwan but with additional followers throughout Asia and the Western world.

The Nature of Gender Roles in the Tale of Ramayana and the Gender Roles Found Today
[ send me this paper ]
This is an 8 page paper discussing gender roles in Ramayana and those of today. The tale of Ramayana first said to be written around the year 1000 B.C. outlines the traditional gender roles in dharma. Rama as the male role model was obedient to his parents and faithful to his wife and eventually led an army to rescue her as would a traditional hero. Sita is Ramas faithful and beautiful wife who follows him when he is banished in the forest, is faithful to him when she is abducted and obedient to him when he asks her to perform a test of her chastity. The tale has provided gender models for thousands of years and has also undergone various reinterpretations which constantly redefine the roles of Sita and Rama. In some versions, Sita is a strong and powerful woman who is humiliated by her husbands request. Despite the different versions which exist, modern day Indian women and men and Indian communities in the western world have been found to have different gender roles. While many families still have traditional roles with the woman in charge of the house and children and obedient to her husband, still other studies have found that many modern Indian women today see themselves as independent professionals and in many cases, the major wage earners in their households.
