Karl Marx’s Theory of Religion and Modern Day Islamic Turkey
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing Marx’s theory of religion and Islamic modern day Turkey. Karl Marx believed that religion was the “opium of the people” and it led to the protection of the elite classes and oppression of the lower classes. In modern day Turkey, the Islamist movement was said to originate as a need to represent the poor urban population and promoted the ideals of Marx in regards to the socialist ideals and community equality. In addition, it also promoted the traditional conservative ideals of the Islamic faith. Since religion has become a part of Turkish politics, the oppression of classes and other religions has continued. Christians within Turkey find it hard to exist in the country as they are not allowed to study their own faith and are forced to learn the foundations of Islam within the educational system. Those children who refuse are humiliated by the teachers and class mates. Since 1980, many Christians have moved from Turkey into parts of Europe. Turkey which is a member of NATO and the European Council deems itself as “secular” to seem more attractive to the western countries but by all accounts, Marxist theories of religion leading to oppression seems to be a ongoing issue in modern day Turkey.

Religion and Homosexuality: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 9 page paper discussing homosexuality and religion in regards to Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The policies and issues relating to homosexuality vary a great deal throughout different religions. While in some cases, specific references are difficult to find in ancient scriptures and holy text, other references such as in Islam’s Quran and Hadith, seem quite specific as to the opinion of homosexuality and what, if any, punishment should be given. The Jewish and Christian religions both have conservative divisions which forbid homosexual practice and homosexuals’ participation in rituals while at the same time they also have liberal or reformed divisions which recognize homosexuals in regards to equal rights and respect. Hinduism and Buddhism also have varied perspectives within their own religions as while some Hindu researchers cannot find specific references either way, others refer to the Kama Sutra and its devotion of an entire chapter to gay men. Most Buddhist divisions refer to the precepts of Right Conduct but with some differentiation as to the interpretation of “sexual misconduct”.

Religion and the Patterns of Morality
[ send me this paper ]
In this age of increased crime and public decadence in and out of the White House and Senate, it is easy to understand the need to incorporate a sense of morality within the context of politics. Moral action is perhaps a necessary ingredient that appears to be missing, or, at the least, diminished. Former President Reagan stated that he felt that Americans need religion because we are imperfect and our government needs the church because only those humble enough to admit they are sinners can bring democracy the tolerance it requires in order to survive. This 5 page paper proposes that this statement is reflective of a belief that religion is able to influence the patterns of morality by animating moral behavior within the context of government or political policies.
