Bush’s Affirmative Action Views Help Hispanics
[ send me this paper ]
The first thing anyone will notice when observing the Bush White House and its Advisors is that it has color. Instead of talking about Affirmative Action, George W. Bush has included people of color on his actual consultant staff. Three names easily come to mind, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Alberto Gonzales, the latter his candidate for the Supreme Court Justice position. When Bush is on TV, the good ole white boy club is visually gone. His advisors are an example of what Bush refers to as “affirmative access,” his replacement for Affirmative Action. It’s the President’s method, lived by example, of providing racial integration that, in practice, far exceeds any claim in support of equal access under the unsuccessful Affirmative Action program. In light of Bush’s nature to take action, his Administration has gone further than any other White House in support of the Hispanic community. 5 works cited. jvBushAA.rtf

Campaign Finance Reform
[ send me this paper ]
(5pp). In 1974 Congress passed a set of laws that
changed the amount of money which could be donated
to an individual campaign. Contributions to
candidates are now limited to $1,000, per
contributor, that's called hard money. But of
course many people and organizations, including
special interest groups such as defense
contractors, the gambling industry, organized labor
have more money that they would like to spend on
politics than they can get to candidates in $1,000
increments. So they give much larger amounts to
advocacy groups, political action committees and
the political party. That is called soft money.
Not much else has happened in the last 25 years of
discussion. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Eleanor Roosevelt
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. One cannot discuss twentieth century first ladies without Eleanor Roosevelt immediately coming to mind. Regarded as one of America's great reforming leaders who had a sustained impact on national policy toward youth, blacks, women, the poor, and the United Nations, Mrs. Roosevelt became the new representation of first ladies. Politically active and social adept, Eleanor took strong stands in everything she addressed, in spite of the fact that she was initially apprehensive of becoming trapped in the cyclical confines of the White House. This proved to be a premature concern, inasmuch as Mrs. Roosevelt was instrumental in setting new precedents. Weekly press conferences, national lectures and a radio programs were just some of the innovative ways the first lady immersed herself in the political scene. Along with a syndicated newspaper column, being a hands-on supporter for the World War II war effort and a major voice in [President Roosevelt's] administration for measures to aid the underprivileged and racial minorities, Eleanor had made a solid place for herself in the annals of American history.
