A Psychoanalytic Reading of Christina Rossetti’s “The Lost
Titian”
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the psychoanalytical
aspects of the short story by Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) “The
Lost Titian” that was published in 1856. It is worth noting that
her works’ apparent simplicity often masks a darker and far more
intellectual stream of consciousness. From a psychoanalytical
perspective it is quite clear that there is much more to the
writer and her work which may, in itself, serve as a metaphor for
a creative and unique woman of the Victorian age. Bibliography
lists 3 sources.

A View of Medieval Life (7 pp)
[ send me this paper ]
Labels in any time period tend to fluctuate -we
may call the Middle Ages that period of time from
the twelfth century to the fifteenth century. An
art historian would label these early, high and
late Gothic, but for the sake of discussion we will
use "Medieval," to encompass both. A large part
of the population at this time was illiterate, but
that does not mean that they did not love stories
like the rest of us. What has survived from that
period are the stories, in the forms of the works
of Christine de Pisan (1363 - 1431) and Jean
Foissart ( c 1330 - c1404). Yet we will see
different pictures of the same society from their
point of view as we examine their works.

Abuse Alert In The Dental Industry
[ send me this paper ]
4 pages in length. Children are often the unwitting victims of domestic violence, even though they are not the specific targets of the adult's anger. Statistics show that in America, a child is reported abused or neglected every thirteen seconds, which equates to more than two point seven million children each and every year. This figure, more than three times as many as was reported in 1980, reflects a disturbing trend toward uncontrolled acts of domestic violence. The writer discusses how dental healthcare professionals can first recognize child abuse in their patients and then deal with the moral and ethical obligations of reporting such abuse. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Adrienne Rich's "When We Dead Awaken: Writing As Re-Vision"
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Carrying forth the burden that has plagued women for centuries, Adrienne Rich's When We Dead Awaken: Writing As Re-Vision attempts to alter the historical concept of patriarchy within the boundaries of contemporary society. In the author's opinion, the age-old gender molds are ripe for revamping and bringing into the present frame of consciousness. No longer are women to be made to suffer through an oppressive existence simply because it is the right thing to do; rather, Rich paints a new picture of a strong, intelligent woman who will not be coerced by the irrational expectations of an oppressive, patriarchal society. Ally McBeal: Cultural Values And Behavior
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The notoriety of Ally McBeal is not that surprising if one considers the standard elements of contemporary popular culture that it depicts. Indeed, the extent to which this particular program highlights such cultural values as capitalism and individualism, while at the same time devaluing certain ways of being, lends to the show's credibility as a reflection of society. Money and self-centeredness are two of the primary cultural values that stand out in virtually every episode; amidst the young law firm is a collection of people whose ideals are as shallow as a child's. That everything revolves around the amassing of great quantities of money reflects the manner by which society has rearranged priorities by placing superficiality at the top of the list. Add to that a significant sense of feminism gone awry and it all adds up to a television program that offends virtually every possible social group. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing themes consisted and found within Morrison’s “Sula”, Anzaldua’s “Borderlands” and the poetry and writings of Namjoshi and Hanscombe and Willis. Themes of cultural dichotomy, opposing forces, self and identity are consistent throughout writings by women minorities. In Toni Morrison’s “Sula” and Gloria Anzaldua’s “Borderlands” both describe situations of women struggling in cultures in which continuously opposing forces and cultural identities lead them to dichotomies which in some cases end in a negative direction as in “Sula” but in other instances lead to creativity as described in Anzaldua’s “Borderlands” and the Aztec elements of tlilli, tlapilli which symbolize writing and wisdom and allow for the bridge to be attained through the gods and spirit world and that which lies beneath. The themes found in the writings of Morrison and Anzaldua are also used in the poetry of Suniti Namjoshi and Gillian Hanscombe’s found in their work “Flesh and Paper” and in Susan Willis’ essay in the text “Making a Difference”.

Are Women More “People-Oriented” Leaders?
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page report
discusses the time-honored assumption, at least in modern times,
that women are more people-oriented leaders than men. Are women
more people-oriented and greater believers in “participative”
management? There is only one definitive answer and it is not
particularly satisfying. That answer is -- “it depends.” Many
social scientists commonly maintain that there is no empirical
basis for assuming that gender has a direct influence on
leadership style. Others researchers are convinced that female
leaders are more concerned about interpersonal relationships and
use a more democratic and participative leadership style than do
men. Research on the issue is examined. Bibliography lists 8
sources.

and how anger and intolerance have made themselves uninvited guests in many a heterosexual courtship relationship. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Athol Fugard's "The Road To Mecca"
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. No one likes to be branded as different from the social norm, especially when such unwarranted labeling is founded within a quagmire of gender, cultural and racial intolerance. Miss Helen, of Athol Fugard's The Road to Mecca, represents just such a person whose only crime against society is being her own person, asking nothing of anyone and only wanting to be accepted for the unique individual she truly is. What she receives instead is a barrage of unsubstantiated judgment as to the validity of her character, the constant challenge to assimilate into the norm and a general yet overwhelming understanding of how a woman's entire existence is inextricable linked with the presence of a man; once that link is broken, she is no longer worthy of regard as an individual. Expounding upon issues of aging, personal freedom, human worth, loneliness, individuality, defiance against the norm, religious directives Religion and the never-ending quest for spirituality, Fugard strives to bring forth the extent to which people create conflict on so many levels, not the least of which include religious/secular, young/old and gender. Australia’s Glass Ceiling
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page paper discussing the course of change from women’s perspective over the years. It appears that advances for women in general are preceded with intense social change. It was not until the 1970s that women made noticeable and lasting advances in Australia, after the “women’s movement” had been operational for some time. Today, it is Generation X that dictates the need for balance in work and home life. As men seek to achieve more of the balance that has been required of women in the past, likely there will be fewer gender-based differences apparent as well. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Betty Friedan's "The Feminine Mystique"
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. That patriarchy has been the controlling social force for centuries has effectively placed the female gender in the shadows of acceptance, while the male gender has successfully progressed in all possible areas: politics, education and economics. "The Feminine Mystique" by Betty Friedan – originally penned in the 1960s – notes that for women, these areas have long histories of restraint through design of the woman’s role; the effects of such designs have been so well entrenched that they have automatically applied to essentially every other area of public life. No additional sources cited.

Betty Friedan's "The Feminine Mystique" And Eldridge
Cleaver's "Soul On Ice"
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. Comparing the postwar work of Betty Friedan to that of Eldridge Cleaver is to draw a common denominator from two seemingly divergent perspectives. While Friedan's The Feminine Mystique addresses the cultural narrow-mindedness of gender, Cleaver's account in Soul On Ice focuses upon the long-standing racial inequities that have plagued man since the beginning of time. Clearly, to compare these two works encourages the student to seek out this common denominator; at the same time, however, the
student will also want to discuss the individual characteristics pertinent only to each specific book. No additional sources cited.

Betty Friedan, bell hooks And Alice Walker: Contributions To African-American Society

Bibliography lists 5 sources.
